Biographie
Née en Mauricie au début des années 50, Estelle a eu un parcours exigeant. Par suite de la séparation de ses parents, elle s’est retrouvée pensionnaire chez les religieuses dès l’âge de 6 ans et ce pour les 7 années du primaire.
Ayant abandonné l’école avant la fin de son secondaire, elle passera sa vie adulte à étudier au travers ses emplois, sa vie d’épouse, de mère et d’entrepreneur. Elle obtiendra finalement son baccalauréat Ès arts à l’âge de 61 ans. C’est à la suite de l’obtention de celui-ci, à la recherche d’un nouveau défi, qu’elle décide de suivre des cours de dessin et de peinture. Amatrice et collectionneuse, l’intérêt était présent. Après la première année d’un baccalauréat en arts visuels et médiatiques à distance dû à la pandémie de COVID, elle poursuivra son apprentissage en ligne.
L’apprentissage de la technique répond au « comment peindre ». Pour Estelle, le plus important est de répondre au « pourquoi peindre ». La réponse s’est imposée rapidement. Écologiste de la première heure, formée en biologie-écologie, la protection de l’environnement est au cœur de ses intérêts et préoccupations depuis plus de 50 ans.
Installée dans son atelier de Montréal, elle souhaite joindre sa voix à toutes celles qui nous invitent à protéger l’environnement dont nous sommes partie prenante. Elle travaille actuellement sur une série intitulée « Je suis air, eau et matière » où elle utilise la transparence, la superposition pour illustrer comment tout le vivant est interrelié et dépendant un de l’autre.
Après avoir travaillé plus de 20 ans en développement économique et en accompagnement d’entrepreneurs, c’est à son tour d’offrir le fruit de son labeur en espérant qu’il plaira aux amateurs d’art.
Biography
// Born in Mauricie in the early 1950s, Estelle had a demanding start in life. Following the separation of her parents, she found herself a boarder with nuns from the age of 6 and for the 7 years of primary school.
Having dropped out of school before finishing high school, she spent her adult life studying through her jobs, her life as a wife, mother and entrepreneur. She finally obtained her Bachelor of Arts at the age of 61. It was after obtaining this, looking for a new challenge, that she decided to take drawing and painting lessons. As an amateur and collector, the interest was there. After a first year of a distance learning bachelor's degree in visual and media arts due to the COVID pandemic, she will continue her learning mainly online. l.
Learning technique is the answer to “how to paint”. For Estelle, the most important thing is to answer the “why paint”. The answer came quickly. An ecologist from the start, trained in biology-ecology, environmental protection has been at the heart of his interests and concerns for more than 50 years.
Installed in her Montreal workshop, she wishes to add her voice to all those who invite us to protect the environment of which we are a stakeholder. She is currently working on a series entitled “I am air, water and matter” where she uses transparency and superposition to illustrate how all living things are interconnected and dependent on each other.
After having worked for more than 20 years in economic development and supporting entrepreneurs, it is his turn to offer the fruit of his labor in the hope that it will please art lovers.
Approche artistique
Peindre, c’est d’abord un travail quotidien sur moi. C’est apprendre les différentes techniques mais surtout apprendre à surmonter l’incertitude, le manque de confiance, les échecs répétés; c’est se nourrir des encouragements et des succès, petits et grands, pour persévérer et se dépasser. Peindre, c’est aussi joindre ma voix à tous ceux et celles qui nous invitent à protéger l’environnement dont nous sommes partie prenante.
Comment alors créer des toiles harmonieuses qu’on a envie de regarder tous les jours même si elles veulent être un appel au secours de la Vie sur Terre? La piste que j’explore actuellement dans une série que j’intitule « Je suis air, eau et matière » est de travailler le thème des relations entre les différents éléments vivants en utilisant la transparence et la superposition pour illustrer ces relations vitales.
Comme humains, force est d’admettre que nous avons détruit l’harmonie naturelle nécessaire pour la pérennité de la Vie sur Terre. La peinture nous sensibilise à la nécessité de cohésion, d’équilibre et d’harmonie.
Chaque toile est conçue à partir de quelques photographies retravaillées sur un logiciel afin de créer ce qui me sert de croquis de départ. Ce qui m’attire principalement c’est de jouer avec les différentes formes pour en créer de nouvelles qui ont leur propre discours. Selon le cas, je travaillerai soit seulement à l’huile soit avec des couches au pastel, à l’acrylique et à l’huile.
Artistic approach
// Painting is first and foremost a daily work for me. It’s learning the different techniques but above all learning to overcome uncertainty, lack of confidence, repeated failures; it’s about nourishing yourself with encouragement and successes, big and small, to persevere and surpass yourself. Painting also means adding my voice to all those who invite us to protect the environment of which we are a part.
How then can we create harmonious paintings that we want to look at every day even if they want to be a cry for help for Life on Earth? The avenue that I am currently exploring in a series that I call “I am air, water and matter” is to work on the theme of relationships between different living elements using transparency and superposition to illustrate these vital relationships.
As humans, we must admit that we have destroyed the natural harmony necessary for the sustainability of Life on Earth. Painting makes us aware of the need for cohesion, balance and harmony.
Each canvas is designed from a few photographs reworked on software to create what serves as my initial sketch. What mainly attracts me is playing with different forms to create new ones that have their own message. Depending on the case, I will work either only in oil or with layers of pastel, acrylic and oil.
